What the program can do now
Currently the program can aid in creating low resolution scans – meaning it would be difficult to tell a persons eye color but you would recognize it was them. From scan to full mesh is about 15 minutes (note: the scanning time is just a couple minutes, it’s the post scan process that takes the bulk of the time).
Our target goal
We want it to be easy to create a standard resolution 3d model within 30 minutes. With standard resolution you can easily tell the persons eye color and also the correct shape of their nose.
Currently a standard resolution scan takes about 2 hours of editing to produce. The editing involves removing bad data that messes up the alignment process and also removing bad color information where the background image has been included on the foreground. Although we’ve made tremendous progress (the first scan took 12 hours of work), we still have a ways to go to get it where we want to be.
